Berdine Hirschy

Durham, B. Berdine 'Berd" Hirschy, age 94, passed away on June 17th at the Hock Family Pavilion, Durham NC. A native of Jackson County, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Joe Berry and Rose Powell Rigdon. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harlan W. Hirschy,; sons Harlan W. Hirschy, Jr. and David N. Hirschy; granddaughter, Bethany Hirschy; two brothers, John and Jack Rigdon; and sister, Winifred McNeil. Berd and Harlan met while at Berea College in Kentucky and were married on June 6, 1939. In 1941, the couple moved to Neenah, Wisconsin where they raised their family. Berd was an active Member of Calvary Bible Church and enjoyed participating in Garden Club, Christian Women's Club, bowling and golf leagues. Berd and Harlan retired to the Waynesville area where Berd spent many happy hours gardening, making jewelry, quilts, baskets and stained glass. It was always Harlan and Berd's desire to share the love of Jesus in the all that they did and in supporting the spread of the Gospel throughout the world. She is survived by daughters, E. Rosewyn Overholt of Taylors, South Carolina, Becki Hirschy of Waukesha, Wisconsin and Jennifer Gentry (Gary), of Durham, North Carolina and daughter-in- laws, Linda Hirschy of Hudson, Ohio and Shirley Hirschy of Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Berd is also survived by grandchildren, Darcie Fiedler, Kimberly Stevens, Heidi Hirschy, Harlan Hirschy III, Norman Hirschy, Timothy Hirschy, Sarah Tirpak, Jesse Wolkenheim, Kylie Sievert, Nicole Overholt, Nathan Overholt, Noah Overholt, Emily Gentry, Ashley Moore, and Anna Gentry as well as eleven great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Graveside services will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, June 22, 2015 at Bethel Community Cemetery with Pastor Steven Moore officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. prior to services at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville. Donations in Berd's name can be made to Baptist Mid-Missions, 7749 Webster Road, P.O.
