Maggie Valley, Betty Jean Arthur Day, age 78, passed away on Tuesday, October 6, 2020 at her home surrounded by her family.

A native of Canada, she was a daughter of the late James and Betty Tench Arthur.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a sister, Sandra Arthur; brother, Grant Arthur; and the father of her children, Jerry Franklin Day.  Jean was the owner of Pioneer Village Resort in Maggie Valley.  She loved listening to music, attending concerts, playing tennis, working in her flowers and helping people in their time of need.

Jean is survived by her daughter, Sandra Day (Heidi Potier), of Seattle, Washington; two sons, Stacey Franklin Day (Dani Bingham Day), of Memphis, Tennessee and Jerry Day (Tamara); sister, Sharon Harris (John), of Canada; brother, Bill Arthur (Nancy), of Canada; three grandchildren, Nathan, Madison and Nicole; and two great-grandchildren, Stella Jean and Elliott.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 18, 2020 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home.  The service will be live streamed and will be accessible through Jean’s obituary on Wells Funeral Home website to facilitate the ongoing focus on community safety and health.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sarge’s Animal Rescue Foundation, P.O. Box 854, Waynesville, NC 28786

The care of Jean Day has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Homes.
