Donald Leon Brown, age 67, passed away on Monday, April 18, 2011 at his residence. He was a native of Buncombe County but was raised in Haywood County for most of his life and was a son of the late Osie Brown. Donald was proud to serve his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He traveled around the world during his 20 years of service. He was the happiest man spending time in the mountains listening to country music, watching his sons play soccer, and gathering with friends and family at home. Donald was a member of St. John's Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Norma Duran Brown; two sons, Jon Victor Sebastian Brown and his wife, Amanda, and Patrick Alexander Leon Brown all of Canton; one grandchild, Bentley Brown; two sisters, Patricia Ruff and her husband, Jimmy, of Waynesville, and Virginia Robinson and her husband, Terry Presswood; father-in-law, Victor Hugo Duran, Sr.; one brother-in-law, Victor Hugo Duran, Jr.; two sisters-in-law, Paula Sonnenfeld and her husband, Kurt, and Grace Zarlenga and her husband Ruben; seven nieces, Melissa Ruff, Tajtiana Zarlenga, Guadalupe Duran, Pilar Duran, Maria Cecilia Duran, Scarlett Sonnenfeld, and Natasha Sonnenfeld; and one nephew, Zachary Presswood. A celebrating funeral mass will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at St. John's Catholic Church with Father Larry LoMonaco and Father Maurice Boyd officiating. Burial will be held at the Western Carolina Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Wells Funeral Home of Canton and from 6:00 until 6:45 p.m. at St. John's Catholic Church.
