Paul Tharp

October 2, 1935 — June 2, 2020

Paul Russell Tharp, 84, went to rest in Jesus on Tuesday, June 2, 2020 at Mission Health in Asheville, North, Carolina.

He was born on Wednesday, October 2, 1935 in Miami Florida, to the late Marland Eugene Tharp and Alice Poulson Tharp.  In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Karen Esther Tharp Turano.

During Paul's career, he wore many hats.  He helped found WGTS radio station at Columbia Union College, served as chief technician of the audio-visual department at the National Education Association, and later went on to serve in the field of community relations at several Seventh-day Adventist hospitals in Hawaii and California.

Following his retirement, he continued his ministry work through his weekly broadcast of the Sound Assurance radio program, featuring inspirational thoughts and beloved Christian music. His program was appreciated by people from around the world.

At an early age, Paul developed a passion for photography, radio, and the Ringling Brothers Circus.

Paul was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His life philosophy was...Love everyone and be the best possible person you can be.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Roma Jean Everett Tharp of Candler, North Carolina; daughter, Lorie Sundean and her husband Mel of Santa Cruz, CA; son, Randy Tharp and his wife, Colleen, of Matheun, MA;  three grandchildren, Taylor, Thomas, and Caitlyn Tharp; and one great-grandson, Grayson Bentley.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Adventist World Radio.

A private family graveside service will be held at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Candler, NC.
