Ronald "Ronnie" Shelton

Waynesville, Ronald Shelton, age 68, passed away on Sunday, December 6, 2020 at his residence.

A native of Haywood County he was a son of the late Verlan and Emma McMahan Shelton.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Carolyn Shuler.  For the past 28 years, Ronnie was a pillar of the Hazelwood community.  As owner and operator of Hazelwood Tire, Ronnie along with his son, Cale, have sought to provide superior customer service for the community.  Ronnie took pride in an honest handshake and a spotless workspace.  There is never an evening when you would drive by 396 Hazelwood Avenue and see a vehicle out of place.  Prior to Hazelwood Tire, Ronnie worked production at Dayco Corporation for 20 +years.   For recreation, Ronnie and his friends would travel to Fontana Lake and water ski all day long.  When he wasn’t skiing his manmade slalom course, Ronnie could be found fishing or cheering on his favorite NASCAR racer.  His greatest love in this entire world, were his grandchildren, Chloe and Jaxon and his Westie, Ozzie.

Ronnie is survived by his wife of 19 years, Marci Shelton; son, Cale Shelton (Shelly), daughter, Laura Gunter Jones (Dewayne); all of Waynesville; six sisters, Shirley Elberson, of New Jersey, Linda McCarter (Robert), Faye Rogers (Bill), Diane Ashe (James), Sandra Cooper (Harold) and Wanda "Penny" Rider, all of Waynesville; numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 19, 2020 at Pleasant Balsam Baptist Church with Reverend Brandon Mendez, Reverend Daryl Hannah and Reverend Dr. Roy Kilby officiating.

The care of Mr. Shelton has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Homes.
