Candler – Thelma Rogers Perry, 88, of the Pole Creek Community passed away on Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at Emerald Ridge Rehabilitation & Care Center.
A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, she was the daughter of the late, Horace Rogers and Flora Henderson Rogers.
Thelma was a 1949 graduate of Candler High School and retired from American Enka/BASF in 1991 with 33 years of service. Thelma was a member of Pole Creek Baptist Church where she served in several leadership roles throughout the church including, Sunday school teacher, Girl Scouts and youth group leader. She loved music especially singing gospel music with the Melody Trio and the church choir and was involved with the ladies group at her church. Thelma liked bowling, traveling and North Carolina Tar Heel basketball. She was dedicated to her family, especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by two daughters, Susan Partain and her husband, Thomas, and Penny Stevens and her husband, George, all of Candler; a sister, Jeanette Harris of Barnardsville; two brothers, H. B. Rogers, Jr. and Gene Rogers of Candler, six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 16, 2018 at Pole Creek Baptist Church with the Reverend Dennis Thurman officiating. Burial will follow at Snow Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
