He was born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. He served in the Canadian Navy on convoy escort duty in the North Atlantic during World War II. He expanded his professional experience working in the cosmetics industry while living in London, England, and Geneva, Switzerland. His international expertise then carried him worldwide as Vice President and International Controller for Chesebrough Ponds Corporation from which he retired in 1981. He subsequently fulfilled a lifelong dream to live in the San Juan Islands where he spent many happy hours boating in the waters of the pacific northwest. Most recently he split his residence between North Carolina and Florida.
