Waynesville, NC-Adolphus Dock Stokes, age 90, of 215 Shelton Street, died Tuesday, August 12, 2003 after a short illness.
A native of Texas County, Oklahoma, he was the son of the late Mark and Mary Elizabeth Jordan Stokes. He lived 38 years in Stevens County, Kansas and lived one year in Jackson County prior to moving to the Haywood Lodge in Waynesville.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Janice Youderian Stokes who died in 1984. He was an Army veteran of World War II and received the purple heart and two bronze stars. He was employed by Gregg Trucking and Wade Beasley and Sons of Hugoton, Kansas for many years. After retirement, he enjoyed small engine repair and locksmithing. He was a member of the Church of Christ and enjoyed the senior citizens luncheons he attended in Jackson County.
He is survived by one daughter, Alecia Fischer and her husband, Dr. Martin Fischer, of Cullowhee, NC and a granddaughter Rachel Fisher.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.
