Adonza Crusius

May 17, 1930 — November 15, 2009

Adonza Frost Crusius, age 79, of the Beaverdam Community, went home to be with her Lord, Sunday, November 15, 2009 at Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals. A coal miner's daughter from Benton, Ill, Adonza was born May 17, 1930 and she moved from Benton, Ill to Miami, Fl at the age 12. She attended Miami Edison High School and was in the Miami Edison Cadettes. She attended Lindsey Hopkins Vocational School for a Licensed Practical Nurse and received her Registered Nurse from Miami Community College. Adonza was a high achiever. She met her husband, William H. Crusius, in high school in an algebra class and was married, in 1949, to this wonderful man. They had two beautiful and wonderful daughters, Donna Lynne Crusius and Deborah Jean Crusius. Adonza worked at Hialeah Hospital and also for Dr. Joseph Freeman as a surgical and office nurse. She worked at Jackson Memorial Hospital in surgery. She moved to Canton, NC in 1986 and worked at Haywood Regional Medical Center until 1999, when she retired. Above all this, she became a Christian at the age of nine years old, at church in a home on a Sunday night-sitting on a board from one chair to another. Adonza was baptized in Moses Lake, in Benton, Ill, at nine years old. She loved the Lord with all her heart and sang as a trio with two of her sisters. She always said that she loved nursing and wanted to become a nurse from childhood. Adonza always stated that if she had nursing to do over again, she would be at the patients' bedside more if possible. She was born into a poor family, but did not realize that she was poor. Adonza was born to Alla Mae Bowden Frost and Daniel Floyd Frost – parents that brought the family of nine children up in a Christian home as best they could. She said she never knew she was poor in earthly goods, but she was wealthy in Spiritual things and love from her family. The family always had family altar before retiring for the night. Her parents are deceased, also, Helen, Priscilla, Clayton, and Flora. Her living siblings are Dan, Serita, Ruth, and Richard. Adonza had many friends and was a friendly person. She loved life, her nursing career, the Lord, her husband and her daughters. Adonza was a member of Beaverdam United Methodist Church in Beaverdam, but at the time of her death, she attended Calvary Chapel in Waynesville. She leaves behind many cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends. Her special friends are Sally Ratcliffe, Joan and Harry Eldon, and Wanda Laird Newbury. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 19, 2009 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Bill Rogers, Reverend Dan Frost (her brother), Reverend Bruce Cayton, and Reverend Harry Eldon officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home. The family wants to thank the nurses and doctors at Haywood Regional Medical Center and Memorial Mission Hospital for their undivided care. Adonza has now gone to a far better place – Heaven is her home. She will be greatly missed. She was a member of a dinner group that gave support at times of need. These were special friends and Adonza will be greatly missed. Memorials may be made to Calvary Chapel –Waynesville, 201 Acorn Lane, Clyde, NC 28721 or Haywood Community College Foundation, memo line - Crusius Scholarship, 185 Freedlander Drive, Clyde, NC 28721.
