Canton, Agnes Pitts Brown, age 81, of 104 Brown Hollow Road, died Wednesday, September 9, 2009 surrounded by her family and their love for her at the Haywood Regional Medical Center. She was born on July 14, 1928 in the Bethel community. She was the last surviving of eleven children of the late Benjamin L. and Carrie Guy Pitts. She was also preceded in death by her late husband Floyd Earl Brown who died in 1978. She is survived by a son, Terry Robert Brown; two daughters; Martha Brown Woody and her husband Johnny, and Donna Brown Clark and her husband Rodney. She has 3 grandsons; Steve Brown and his wife Darla; Patrick Brown and his wife Nicole, both of Canton and Thad Woody, of Atlanta, GA. One granddaughter, Rachel Clark of Clyde and 2 great-grandchildren, Austin and Casey Brown of Canton. Her love of the Pitts family extended to her many nieces and nephews. Agnes retired in her seventies after working tirelessly over 25 years as a caregiver for elderly people in Haywood County rest homes and was a member of Laurel Grove Baptist Church. She loved working outside in the yard making her yard and flowers beautiful. She graduated from Bethel High School in 1947 and played on the championship women's basketball team. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 12, 2009 at Wells Funeral Home in Waynesville. Reverend Gary Griffin and Reverend Bruce Cayton will officiate. Burial will follow at Bethel Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons and nephews.
