Agnes Elizabeth Ferrell

August 11, 1936 — February 24, 2025

Ormond Beach, Florida

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Agnes Elizabeth Ferrell on February 24, 2025, at the age of 88. Agnes was born on August 11, 1936 in her home state of West Virginia to John and Mary Popovith. Agnes went by many names throughout her wonderful life…of course, Agnes, but others include Ag (for those one syllable speakers), Gran (for those 6 beautiful grandkids), Granny (at times for the grandkids and great-grandkids), Aunt Aggie (for the nieces and nephews), Coach Ferrell (for the thousands of students she taught), Mama Ferrell (for the hundreds of kids that she cared for and looked after), Ma Mize (for the select few who were close friends of her son, Bentley) but the one she cherished the most was MOM.

She married her husband, Damon Ferrell, in June 1959. The two celebrated 65 years together as husband and wife, or as Damon would say 23,985 days as a married couple and over 25,000 days since their first date. That’s over 2 Trillion seconds…mostly of which Agnes telling him what to do and how to do it. A unique relationship to say the least.

Agnes was an educator, teaching Physical Education throughout her teaching career, mostly at Walker Junior High School in Orlando, Florida. She taught thousands of students over the years, developing life long relationships with many. She enjoyed their relationships, watching them grow from kids through young adulthood to marriage and ultimately parenthood. She was extremely grateful of the well wishes she received from former students on Birthdays, Mother’s Day, Anniversaries, Thanksgiving and Christmas. She truly loved all her former students. Additionally, she loved watching sports, especially basketball and football, with her favorite time being Saturdays watching The University of Oklahoma take the field. Would always wear her OU T shirts on game day. BOOMER SOONER!!!!

Her true joy was her three children, six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was always interested in all aspects of their lives; from academics to athletics to hobbies and interests. She supported them fully, always had an encouraging word to lift their spirit and asked that they do their absolute best in every facet of life.

Agnes is preceded in death by her mother, Mary Popovith, and her father, John Popovith, affectionately known as Neen and Pop by their grandkids. Agnes was an only child and adored her parents greatly.

She is survived by her husband, Damon Ferrell; daughters Mary Lynne Jewell and Diane Lytle; and son Bentley Ferrell. Also, her six grandchildren, Kailey Jewell, Hallie Jewell, Justin Lytle, Christy Lytle, John Ferrell, Katie Ferrell and her four great grandchildren, Jace Lytle, Casen Lytle, Jazmine Lytle and Jayvion Maldonado. She loved them all so very much.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that consider donating to your local animal shelter or food bank. Additionally, for those in NC, please consider donating to the Lake Logan - Cecil Volunteer Fire Dept., 4291 Lake Logan Road, Canton, NC 28716 or to the North Carolina Hurricane Helene Relief Efforts.

At this time, memorial services are TBD. Further notification will be posted on social media once finalized.

The care of Mrs. Ferrell has been entrusted with Wells Funeral Home of Canton, NC.
