Agnes Messer

October 8, 1938 — June 13, 2016

Waynesville, Agnes Geneva Messer, 77, passed away on Monday, June 13, 2016 at her residence. A native of Hartford, Tennessee, she had lived most of her adult life in Haywood County. She was the daughter of the late Sollie and Ida Magaha Fish and was also preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Richard Messer, who died in 2003; a son, Richard Messer; four brothers; and four sisters. She was a former employee of Cataloochee Ranch. Agnes loved spending time with family and her hobbies included quilting, gardening, canning, and tending to her flowers. Agnes is survived by three sons, Robert "Bob" Messer (Vicky), Daniel Messer (Tamie) of Waynesville and Carl Messer (Sharon) of Shelby a sister, Bonnie Whittle of Newport, Tennessee; two brothers, Roy Fish (Eunavee) and Gene Fish (Shirley) of Hartford, Tennessee; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 16, 2016 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Bobby Rogers and Reverend Barry Willett officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers will be Josh, Kyle and Claude Messer, Chris and Charlie Greene, Paul and Walter Fish, Bill Sease, and Lonnie Sutton. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home and at other times, at the residence. Memorials may be made to Haywood Healthcare Foundation, c/o The Homestead, 127 Sunset Ridge Road, Clyde, NC 28721. (Please add hospice in memo line of check.)
