Flat Rock – Alan Gale McCracken, age 67, passed away on February 25, 2015 at Mission Hospitals – Memorial Campus. Alan was born in Haywood County on May 16, 1947 to the late Hilda and William McCracken. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Richard McCracken. He grew up in Long's Chapel United Methodist Church. Alan attended school at Clyde High School where he excelled in athletics and graduated in 1965 and then went on to continue his football career and graduate from Mars Hill College. He served in the US Army for two years and dedicated the next 40 years to teaching, coaching, sports officiating, and was a CarePartners driver with retail operations. Alan will always be remembered as a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. He loved his chosen church, Snow Hill United Methodist Church and loved to hunt, camp, volunteer, share vegetables from his home-grown garden, and held a special place in his heart for his Scotties. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Judy Penland McCracken; son, Cory McCracken (Carson); daughter, Molly Carter (Derrick); brothers Jerry (Sue), Mike (Martha); sister-in-law, Karen; and sister, Linda Brown (Myrl); five grandchildren, Reece, Mason, Marlee, Laney, and Skye; and many other extended family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 1, 2015 at Enka High School in the gymnasium with the Reverend Carrol Lindsey and Reverend Dianne Johnston officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the cafeteria. Family burial will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens.
