Lake Junaluska, Albert Morrison Cobb, age 90, of 174 Stuart Circle, passed away on Thursday, January 06, 2011 at his residence. A native of LaGrange, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Albert Edward and Sue Belle Sutton Cobb. He was also preceded in death by three sisters, Doris Moreland, Ann Cobb, and Jean Morton. He was a Staff Sergeant in the US Army Air Corps and a veteran of World War II. He served in the European area where he was shot down and escaped with assistance from the Holland Underground. With 25 years service, Albert retired in 1982 from PanAm Airlines. He was devoted to his family and a dedicated Christian. While living in Orlando, Florida, he was an active member of Oakland Presbyterian Church, where he served as Sunday School Superintendent, deacon, elder, and Sunday school teacher. He was a member of Cornerstone Fellowship Church in Waynesville. He also loved the outdoors especially working in his vegetable and flower gardens. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Nona Dieffenwierth Cobb; one daughter, Gloria Jones and her husband, Wayne, of Waynesville; two grandchildren, Tracy Jones, of Oxford, North Carolina and Michael Jones and his wife, Charisse, of Wilmington; three great grandchildren, Allison, Christian and Madison Jones; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 9, 2011 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Pastor Bob Dyer, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Dawn Memory Gardens with military honors. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2:45 p.m. on Sunday prior to services.
