Waynesville, Albert Lee Nichols, age 76, of 1007 Oakdale Road, passed away on July 1, 2009 at the VA Medical Center. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Clayton and Elsie Moore Nichols and was prececed in death by a brother, Jake Nichols and a sister, Sarah Jane Walker. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and a retired truck driver who was devoted to his career. During his career, he was also a truck driving instructor. Albert loved camping with his friends at Smokemont and especially loved his family, children, and grandchildren. He was an avid reader and enjoyed reading Louis Lamour. He was fond of animals, especially his two cats, affectionately named "The Nichols Boys." He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Edith Carver Nichols; one son, William Albert Nichols and his wife, Deborah, of Kennerdell, PA; one daughter, Cherri Nichols Eller and her husband, Neal Edwin Eller, Jr., of Raleigh; three grandchildren, Candice Rene� Eller, of Raleigh, Rachel Elaine Nichols of Waynesville; and Julia Elizabeth Barker of Kennerdell, PA; one sister, Doris Reece Kerley, of Canton; one brother, Eugene Nichols, of Waynesville; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and special friends at Thunder Disaster Services. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, July 3, 2009 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Mark Caldwell and Reverend Neal E. Eller, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. prior to services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels, 486 Marshall Street, Waynesville, NC 28786.
