Waynesville-Algie Andrew "Al" Reece age 74 of 55 Estes Loner Lane died Sunday, July 04, 2004 at his residence after a long battle with cancer. He was a native of Clay County, North Carolina and was a son of the late Charlie and Eva Dye Reece. He was a member of Riverside Baptist Church, President and CEO with Bethel Valley Mechanical, lifelong worker in construction, avid hunter, fisher and golfer and loved traveling. Mr. Reece was also a U.S. Army veteran in the Korean War. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ruth Chambers Reece; five daughters, Cheryl Clark, Gail Estep and Karla Thompson of Waynesville, Darla Moore of Maggie Valley and Sherry Martin of Asheville; one son, Dewayne Reece of Clyde; four sisters, Ellen Henson, Edna Chambers, Stella Owens and Eva Mae Burress all of Canton; one brother, Roe Reece of Waynesville; 9 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Tuesday, July 6, 2004 at 3:00 p.m. at Riverside Baptist Church with the Reverend Dr. Mike Odom officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Wade Reece, Harold Stines, Gary Reece, Jay Ledbetter, Mac Ledbetter, Roy Ledbetter and Ray Reece. The family will receive friends Monday, July 5th from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Canton. At other times, the family will be at the residence. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 90 Stiles road, Canton, NC 28716 or to Riverside Baptist Church Care Ministry, 2171 Lake Logan Road, Waynesville, NC 28786.
