Alice Hardy

Waynesville, Alice Kirk Hardy, age 99, passed away on Thursday, May 15, 2014 at Maggie Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Alice was born in Isom, Tennessee on April 1, 1915, daughter of the late William C. and Josephine Kittrell Kirk. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Fred Kirk and four sisters, Edith Harwck, Josephine Hembree, Katherine Cooper, and Mary Hunter. She spent her young adult life in Isom and while employed at the local bank, she met and married Bill Hardy, a World War II US Navy veteran. The couple moved to Waynesville, North Carolina after living in Indianapolis, Indiana where Bill obtained his degree in chiropractic medicine. Both Alice and Bill had a deep and abiding faith in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. They spent many years together working, teaching, and doing community outreach both in the local Church of Christ and in Cherokee, North Carolina spreading the word of God. Alice also supported Bill in his local chiropractic practice and professional activities, raised a family, and was active in community homemaker activities. Later in life, Bill suffered a debilitating stroke which left him paralyzed. For over eight years, Alice provided his around-the-clock care until he passed away in 2000. For as long as she was able to attend, Alice was an active member of Central Haywood Church of Christ. Alice is survived by one son, William M. Hardy, II and his wife, Jean, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; two granddaughters, Adrienne Rocco and Monica Thompson; and two great-grandsons, Brayden and Ashen Thompson; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 17, 2014 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Jeff Arnette officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Central Haywood Church of Christ, 98 Lee Road, Clyde, NC 28721.
