Hendersonville – Alice Carr Choate Hendricks, died peacefully on Sunday, November 15, 2015 at the Carolina Village Medical Center in Hendersonville. She was born on September 25, 1920 in Cooleemee, Davie County, North Carolina, to Dr. Edgar Carr Choate and Selma Rose Reeves Choate. She grew up in Mocksville and Salisbury. Alice Carr attended Limestone College and graduated from Appalachian Teachers College. She later studied Physical Medicine at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Alice Carr married her childhood sweetheart in 1937. They settled in Waynesville in 1954, when her husband opened a dental practice; and raised their family there. She moved to Hendersonville in 2005. Alice Carr enjoyed a long varied working life as a physical therapist, a school teacher, a speech therapist and a successful real estate agent. She served as a dedicated volunteer for the American Red Cross, Haywood County Hospital Auxiliary, and the local public schools, among many other community organizations. First United Methodist Church of Waynesville was her church home for more than 40 years. An accomplished singer, Alice Carr participated in choral groups throughout her life. She was an avid sports enthusiast, a friend to animals and a loving mother to her three children. Alice Carr was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 59 years, Dr. Frank E. Hendricks; a daughter, Nancy Carr Hendricks Cheesborough; a sister, Anna Choate; and a brother, Joseph Choate. She is survived by her daughter, Kim Hendricks Burch (Val Dean), of Hendersonville; her son, Rick Hendricks (Lois Stanford), and one grandson, William Hendricks, all of Las Cruces, New Mexico; a sister, Jane Dickey Choate of Lexington, Kentucky; and several nieces and cousins. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the tender care Alice Carr received from the staff of Carolina Village. A private graveside service will be held at Green Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church of Waynesville, P.O. Box 838, Waynesville, NC 28786 or to a charity of your choice. Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville is in charge of the arrangements.
