Alice Hill

March 1, 1913 — July 8, 2003

Waynesville-Alice Stringfield Hill, age 90, of 35 Highland Road, died Tuesday, July 8, 2003 at Autumn Care Nursing Home.

A native of Haywood County, she was a former resident of Morristown, Tennessee and had returned to Haywood County where she had resided since 1978. She was the daughter of the late Dr. Thomas Stringfield and Mary Elizabeth Moore Stringfield. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Carl Clifton Hill, who died in 1976; two sisters, Mary Stringfield Allen and Thomasine Stringfield Walker; and one brother, Sydenham Moore Stringfield. She was a graduate of Waynesville Township High School and attended Converse College. She was a retired employee with the United States Census Bureau. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Waynesville, and the Wesley Sunday School Class. She was also active with the Waynesville Duplicate Bridge Club.

She is survived by one daughter, Mary Elizabeth Staiger and her husband, Douglas, of Clyde; two grandsons, Kurt Staiger and Stephen Thomas Staiger; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 13, 2003 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend John Christy officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:45 - 2:00 p.m. on Sunday prior to the services at the funeral home.
