Alice Hyde

Alice Goodwin Hyde, age 83, of High Street died Saturday, July 4, 2009, at Haywood Regional Medical Center. A native of Buncombe County, she was the daughter of the late Pierce and Edith Hendrix Dalton. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James W. Goodwin, who died in 1968; her second husband, Gene A. Hyde, who died in 1989; and four brothers, Dale, Perry, Elbert, and Carroll Dalton. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Alice was an active gardener and traveler. She took great pleasure in feeding shut-ins through her church and volunteered with Meals on Wheels. She thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her family and attending all her grandchildren's events. She is survived by a son, Larry Goodwin and his wife, Cyrena, of Canton; a daughter, Sibyl Goodwin White of Burbank, CA; a brother Ben Dalton and his wife, Lee Anna, of Houston, TX; three grandchildren, Leigh Glass, Cydney and Nolan Goodwin; and a great-grandson, Eli Glass. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday July 7, 2009, at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Bruce Cayton and the Reverend Thomas Kemp officiating. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery, Newfound Road. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at Alice's residence. Pallbearers will be Nolan Goodwin, Dalton James, Parker, Jordan, Zachary, and Andrew Dalton. Serving as honorary pallbearer will be Eli Glass.
