Alice Henson Piercy, 95, of Asheville, passed away Tuesday, March 08, 2016. A native of Asheville, she was the daughter of the late John Harrison Henson and Esta Edna Roberts Henson. During WWII, she worked for the U.S. Navy Radar Laboratory in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. She was a Charter Member of Woodland Hills Baptist Church and a current member of Arden First Baptist Church. After 20 years, she retired from Pisgah Forest Region of the U.S. Forest Service in Asheville and at the age of 80 became an avid computer user, playing computer based duplicate bridge, Facebook, video conferencing, emailing and keeping up with her friends and family around the world. She and her late husband, Charles, loved round dancing but her greatest enjoyment was playing Duplicate Bridge, first in Asheville, then later all over the US and worldwide. She was a much sought after partner for internet based Duplicate Bridge with partners all around the world and earned the rank of Silver Life Master in Duplicate Bridge with the American Contract Bridge League (ACBL).
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Charles Hughes Piercy; brothers, Allen Woodrow "Woody" Henson and William Edward Henson and sister, Jean Owenby.
She is survived by her three wonderful children, Barbara "Jan" Piercy, Jeana (Delmer) Piercy Byers and Charles "Chuck" Keith (Jane) Piercy; sister, Marjorie Ann Vaquer; grandchildren, Jay and Kelley Branscomb and three great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00PM on Saturday, March 19th in the Givens Health Center/Wesley Room at Givens Estates. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Arden, 3839 Sweeten Creek Road, Arden, NC 28704 or Woodland Hills Baptist Church, 50 Woodland Hills Drive, Asheville, NC 28804. Burial will be private.
