"1922 – 2016" Canton – Alice Harrill Truesdale Quakenbush, 94, passed away on Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home. A native of Rutherford County, she was a daughter of the late William Amos and Daisy Grace Harrill. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Sidney Truesdale, who died in 1969; her second husband, Jack Quakenbush, who died in 1999; three brothers, Andrew, Arthur, and Jack; and three sisters, Libby, Grace, and Martha. Alice was a very active member of Canton Central United Methodist Church. She spent many years teaching in the kindergarten program and was a loyal member of the WMU, where she was affectionately known for her fund raising ability as the "Pecan Lady." To know Alice was to love Alice. She had a large circle of friends who admired her positive outlook on life and easy-going personality. Alice was one who never complained but always saw the best in every person and any situation. She was also active in the community having served many years on the Town of Canton Recreation Board. Left to cherish her memory are one daughter, Nancy Alice Truesdale of Charlotte; one step-daughter, Diane Quakenbush Hulse of Raleigh; one son, Sid Truesdale and his wife, Page, of Canton; five grandchildren, Drew Hulse, Sidney Truesdale, Sheridan Summer, Peyton Truesdale and Parker Truesdale; and two great-grandchildren, Hudson and Harleigh Summer. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 27, 2016 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Paul Brown officiating.
