Waynesville, Alice Ensley Shuler, age 84, of 475 Raccoon Road, passed away on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at The Homestead. A native of Swain County, she had lived most of her life in Haywood County. She was the daughter of the late Dee and Julie Phillips Ensley and was also preceded in death by her husband, Leslie Woodrow Shuler, who died in 2000. She was very loving and caring and was always known for her hospitality and her beautiful smile. Alice enjoyed working in her garden and canning its bounty, but more than anything, she was a devoted Christian and loved the Lord. She was a member of New Hope Church of God. She is survived by two sons, DeRoy Shuler and his wife, Sue, of Waynesville and Melvin R. Shuler and his wife, Glenda, of Omaha, Nebraska; one sister, Maxine Freeman, of Clyde; five grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 2, 2013 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Melvin R. Shuler and Reverend Heath Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers will be Mark, Jason, Archie, and Dylan Shuler, Ryan McDermott, and Heath Davis. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to services.
