Waynesville, "Jack" John P. Alkema, Jr., age 76, of Last Stop Lane, died on Sunday, October 18 at Mission Hospital. Born in Grand Rapids, he grew up in Ludington, Michigan. He had resided in Dallas, Texas before moving to Haywood County five years ago. He was the son of the late John Peter Alkema, II and Elizabeth Farkas. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his first wife, Billie Alkema. He retired in 1973 after 20 years service in the US Air Force having served during the Vietnam Era. He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Charlotte Wilson; one son, Bryan Alkema and his wife, Julie, of Steamboat Springs, Colorado; two daughters, Cathy Kidwell and her husband, David, of Waco Texas and Barbara Alkema of Morristown, TN; and six grandchildren, Jasmin and Erin Alkema, Jon, Emily, and Sara Kidwell, and Josh Alkema. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 31, 2009 at Shady Grove United Methodist Church with Reverend Thomas Tout, Reverend Linwood Kennedy, and Reverend George Norsworthy officiating.
