Allie Haynes

April 17, 1912 — January 15, 2010

Waynesville, Allie Mae Goforth Haynes, age 97, died Friday, January 15, 2010 at McCracken Rest Home. She was a native of Madison County until moving to Haywood County in 1970. Allie was the daughter of the late Philetus Victor "Fleet" and Lola Martin Goforth and was preceded in death by her husband Berlin C. Haynes, who died in 2009, sisters, Mary Kate Roberts, June Goforth, 3 infant sisters and brothers, P. V. and Edmond Goforth. As a young girl, Allie helped raise her younger siblings and worked diligently on the family farm. She enjoyed volunteering at the Waynesville Nutrition Center and especially loved working in her garden and doing crafts. She always enjoyed her visits with family and going on outings with them. She is survived by two sisters, Pearl Payne of Morganton, NC; Geneva Elliott of TN; two brothers, Albert Goforth of FL; Robert Goforth of Michigan and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 17, 2010 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Captain Craig Gontner officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 358, Waynesville, NC 28786.
