Allie Winchester

May 8, 1910 — September 11, 2004

Waynesville-Allie Leona Whitner Winchester, age 94, of Green Valley Road, died Saturday, September 11, 2004 at Harris Regional Medical Center. She was a native and life long resident of Haywood County and was the daughter of the late Charles "Charlie" Manson and Margaret "Maggie" Hall Whitner. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Benjamin "Bill" Winchester, who died in 1991; and by a son, William Harold Winchester, who died in 1999. She was the former owner and operator of Hyatt Creek Grocery and was a member of Hazelwood Presbyterian Church. She is survived by two daughters, Norma Jean Womack and her husband, Charles, and Patricia June Caldwell and her husband Harley; all of Waynesville. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 13, 2004 at the Hazelwood Presbyterian Church. Reverend Patrick Womack and Reverend Larry Wilson will officiate. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 2:00 p.m. Monday, prior to the services, at the church. The grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers and the great grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers. Memorials may be made to the Haywood County Disaster Funds of the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 358, Waynesville, NC 28786 or to Haywood Christian Ministries, 150 Branner Avenue, Waynesville, NC 28786. Wells Funeral Homes & Cremation Services of Waynesville is in charge of arrangements.
