Alma Garland

Waynesville, Alma Garland, age 93, died on Thursday, October 29, 2009 at the Brian Center. A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late James Stacey and Ada Hampton Stacey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Mack Arnold Garland who died in 1971; one sister and two brothers. Alma went to Haywood Tech at the age of 54 and earned her LPN Degree and was employed with Canton Christian Convalscent Center. She was an avid reader and loved gardening, walking and was a Foster grandparent. Religion was a big part of her life and she was a member of Clyde Church of God. She is survived by a daughter, Judy Garland Carver and her husband, Charles Ray, of Clyde; one son, Robert J. Garland and his wife, Sheila, of Leciester; five grandchildren, Dr. Jeannean Carver, and her husband, Rob Charles, Chuck Carver, and his wife, Misti, Ronald Garland, and his wife, Chantell, Mac Garland and Robert J. Garland, and his wife, Ashley and seven great grandchildren, Chrissy, Allison, Trevor, Ryan and Evie Mae Garland, Christopher Jones and Laurel Charles. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 7, 2009 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Randy Tingle, Reverend James Hart and Reverend Paul Burris officiating. Inurnment will follow at Garrett Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:00 Noon until 1:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
