Alma Shipman

Alma Glance Shipman, age 88, died Sunday, September 21, 2003 at Canton Christian Convalescent Center.

She was a lifelong resident of Haywood County and the daughter of the late James Herschel and Rachel Reeves Glance. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Arthur "Buster" Shipman, her second husband, Charles Kenneth Shipman and a daughter, Gladys Smathers.

She was a homemaker and a member of Beaverdam Baptist Church.

She is survived by two sons and their wives, Herschel Martin Shipman and his wife, Frances and David Seay and his wife, Claudia Maxine all of Canton; two sisters, Ruth Yarborough of Canton and Reva Swann of Alabama; a brother, Reeves Glance of SC; two step-daughters; two step-sons; eight grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 23, 2003 at Beaverdam Baptist Church with the Reverend Gene Worley and Reverend Blaine Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery, Clyde. The family will receive friends from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. Monday at Wells Funeral Homes of Canton. At other times the family will be at the residence of Herschel Shipman, 197 Sunset Circle, Canton.
