Alta Wells

Canton – Alta Wells, 65, passed away on Tuesday, April 21, 2020 at her residence.

Alta was a daughter of the late Kermit Francis and Elva Bentley Wells and was a native of Sullivan County, Tennessee.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Dennis Wells.  Alta graduated from Pisgah High School in 1972 and received her bachelor’s degree of Science in nursing from Western Carolina University in 1976.  She then went on to graduate from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2000 and received her master’s degree in Public Health.  Alta worked for 32 years at the Charles George VA Medical Center and retired in 2014.  She was a member of Central United Methodist Church of Canton.

She is survived by one son, Joshua Bryan Lancaster and wife, Christina Taylor Lancaster, of Canton; one sister, Fran Carol Wells of Clyde; two brothers, Roger and Kermit Wells, both of Canton.

Considering the current public health situation, a memorial service will be held at a later date.
