Altha Mease

Canton-Altha Henson Mease, age 97, formerly of the Henson Cove Community, died Wednesday, April 30, 2003 at Haywood Lodge and Retirement Center in Waynesville.

She was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and was a daughter of the late Ira and Sarah Grogan Henson. She was the wife of the late Way M. Mease, Sr. who died in 1985. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Blazer, a granddaughter, Mitzi Phillips and a great-granddaughter Katie Phillips. Altha was the oldest member of Spring Hill Baptist Church and was a loving mother to all her family.

She is survived by two daughters, Dorothy McCracken and her husband Lewis of Clyde, Margaret Husnian and her husband Azad of Canton, two sons, Way M. Mease, Jr. and his wife Martha of Canton, Charles A. Mease and his wife Blondell of Fletcher, 12 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 3, 2003 at Spring Hill Baptist Church with Reverends Wayne Willett, Dan Wilt, Scott Murray and
James Parham officiating. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery on Old Clyde Road. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until 1:45 p.m. Saturday at the church prior to the service. At other times, the family will be at the family home, 3078 Old Henson Cove Road, Canton, NC 28716.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Spring Hill Baptist Church Missions Fund, 1918 Murray Road, Canton, NC 28716.
