Lake Junaluska, Loy Lilley, age 90, passed away on Thursday, March 23, 2023 at Mission Hospital.
A native of Tennessee, he was the only child of R. V. Lilley and Bessie Goodwin Lilley. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Janet Roquemore Lilley, who died in 2021.
Loy graduated from Memphis State College and Emory University with a master’s degree in Christian Education. He served in the US Army and a Chaplin’s Assistant and served over 40 years, as a Director of Christian Education at several United Methodist churches until his retirement in 1997. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Waynesville, volunteered at Lake Junaluska in the Good News Resource Center, and was a board member of the Corneille Bryan Native Garden. He was a member of the Junaluskians and enjoyed being active and involved by contributing his time volunteering for many of the organization’s projects, as well as serving the Caring for Creation Committee at Lake Junaluska. He also did fundraising for the Alzheimer’s Association.
Loy is survived by three sons, Joseph Lilley, Richard Lilley (Elizabeth), and Christopher Lilley; special daughter-in-law, Donna Lilley; and four dear grandchildren, Emily, Joe, James, and Hannah.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. On Saturday, April 15, 2023 at First United Methodist Church of Waynesville.

The care of Mr. Lilley has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
