Angela Anderson Hardin

Angela Anderson Hardin, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at Givens Health Care Center in Asheville, NC on March 14, 2025, at the age of 97. Born on December 19, 1927, in the beautiful town of Highlands, NC, Angela lived a life filled with joy, love, and dedication to her family and community.

For an impressive 40 years, Angela devoted herself to education as an elementary school teacher, nurturing young minds in 1st and 2nd grade at Clyde School. The impact she had on her students was immeasurable, and her passion for teaching was matched only by her love for her family.

Angela's life was rich with memories that reflected her kind spirit and zest for life. As a young girl, she enjoyed ice skating on the lakes of Highlands, always carrying the sweet sounds of piano melodies with her as she walked to school. Her musical talent blossomed at First Baptist Church of Clyde, where she was a Deacon, Sunday School teacher, and sang in the choir, capturing the heart of James Edwin Hardin. They married in 1951, embarking on a journey filled with love and companionship until his passing in 2002.

A woman of deep faith, Angela was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Asheville and regularly attended services at Givens Health Care Center. She found joy in perennial flower gardening and delighted in taking long walks surrounded by nature. Her adventurous spirit led her coast-to-coast and across the globe, visiting remarkable places including China and Russia.

Angela was not only a traveler but also a creator of delectable meals, with a special talent for baking. She had a penchant for making brownies and creating platters of festive Christmas cookies that she lovingly shared with everyone she encountered. Christmas was particularly dear to her heart, a time when she transformed her home into a holiday wonderland, pouring her joy and creativity into every decoration.

She is survived by her loving children, Charles Edwin Hardin (Margaret) of Blowing Rock and Vicki Hardin Thompson (David) of Arden, along with her dear sisters, Mary Shearouse of Atlanta, GA, and Anne Sellers of Clemson, SC. Her cherished grandchildren, Charles Andrew Hardin (Jacqueline) and Victoria McKee Lo (Wesley), along with great-grandson Charles Andrew Hardin, Jr., carry forward her spirit of kindness and love.

Angela was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Junior Anderson and Mattie Hall Anderson; the love of her life, James Edwin Hardin; and her sister, Jane Lewis. Her legacy of joy, love, and an ever-present smile will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

A visitation will be held at Garrett-Hillcrest Mausoleum Chapel in Waynesville from 12:30 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 22, 2025, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM at the Garrett Hillcrest Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel. Rev. Shane Cassida will be officiating. Friends and family are invited to come together to celebrate the remarkable life of a woman who brought light and joy into the lives of so many.
