Anna Torda

Waynesville, NC-Anna Lavan Torda, age 94, formerly of Jacksonville, FL, died on January 14, 2007 at the Brian Center. A native of Jacksonville, FL, she had lived in Haywood County for the past 11 years. She was the daughter of the late William and Wilhemina Siebert Sharpe. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, Stephen J. Torda, Jr. who died in 1997; two sisters and three brothers. For more than fifty years, she was an active member of the South Jacksonville Presbyterian Church. During these years, Anna served as historian for the ladies group. She also taught Sunday school at St. Judes Nursing Home in Jacksonville for more than eight years. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, and surf fishing. She is survived by a son, Stephen J. Torda, III and his wife, Mary Jean, of Waynesville; four grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. A eulogy will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 16, 2007 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Brother Bill Harkin officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday prior to services at funeral home. Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 18, 2007 at Bosque Bello Cemetery, in Fernandia Beach, FL under the direction of Oxley-Heard Funeral Directors. A visitation will be held 30 minutes prior at the graveside. Serving as pallbearers will be Douglas, Michael, Neal, Allen, and Alexander Torda and Eric Song. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Thornwell Fund for Children, P.O. Box 60, Clinton, SC 29325.
