Annette Bailey Jones, age 72, died on Thursday, March 3, 2011, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Volusia County, Florida. She was the daughter of Melvin and Sadie Bailey and was born on January 13, 1939, in Wiscassett, ME. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Jones, who died on January 25, 2005. After graduating as valedictorian from Morse High School in Bath, she graduated with honors from Burdett College in Boston and subsequently went to work in Washington, DC in the Advanced Research Projects Agency as an Administrative Assistant for the Man in Space Program. She married Alvin Jones of Clyde, NC, who, at the time was in the Navy and stationed in Virginia. Following various duty stations and Mr. Jones' retirement from the Navy in 1968, they moved to Glassboro, NJ. In addition to being a stay-at-home mother, Mrs. Jones was very active in civic activities and organizations and worked at Glassboro State College in the Career Counseling Center. In 1986, after Mr. Jones' retirement from federal service in Philadelphia, PA, they moved to Woolwich. Mrs. Jones then went to work in Augusta for the State of Maine Commission on Government Ethics and Election Practices, retiring in 2001 as Lobbyist and PAC Reporting Officer. She was a member of Bath United Methodist Church, assuming various offices over the years; a past matron of the Order of the Eastern Star; and active with Mr. Jones in the Midcoast Chapter of the National Assn. of Retired Federal Employees. Her interests included traveling, especially cruising and visiting resorts throughout the Caribbean and Mexico, spending the day at Popham Beach, reading, crossword puzzles, sewing and handiwork. She was in the Red Hat Society and also enjoyed playing cribbage at her local Senior Center. She is survived by one son, Donald Jones and his wife, Tamela, of Franklin; three daughters, Pamela Adams and her husband, Peter of Haddon Heights, NJ, Barbara Williamson of Sicklerville, NJ, and Alison Jones of Woolwich, ME; four grandchildren; Tiffany Jones, Melissa Tulini, Sara Williamson, and Thomas Willilamson; and one great-grandson, Liam Oliver; a sister, Loretta Alty of Rochester, NH; two brothers, Melvin Bailey and his wife, Marge, of South Berwick, ME and Donald Bailey and his wife, Shirley, of Clinton, ME; Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 12, 2011, at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Katherine K. Crain and Reverend Cheryl Skinner officiating. Burial will follow at Fincher's Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. A memorial service will be held at a later date at Bath United Methodist Church in Bath, ME.
