Annette Chambers Miller, age 95, passed away quietly on Saturday, May 21, 2011, at Smoky Mountain Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in Waynesville. She was the daughter of the late Charles Cromer and Arby French Swayngim Chambers. Annette and her identical twin, Jeanette, were born June 10, 1915, in Scappoose, Oregon on their mother's 26th birthday. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Mack Vance Miller; a daughter, Regina; and a great-grandson, Garrett DeMarce as well as nine brothers and sisters. Annette graduated from Clyde High School in 1934 and was the oldest living student at the time of her death. She retired from American Enka in 1972 after 44 years of dedicated service. She enjoyed many happy hours after her retirement taking care of her lawn, working in her garden, and canning the fruits of her labor. She was the oldest living member of Clyde First Baptist Church which she attended regularly until recent years. She is survived by one son, Michael Mack Miller and his wife, Barbara Henderson Miller, of Clyde; a granddaughter, Kimberly DeMarce and her husband, Adrian and great-grandson, Jackson, of Clyde; her brother, Cordell Chambers of Guyton, GA; many nieces and nephews; and her very special friend, Carolyn Medford of Waynesville. Annette was very fond of her extended family consisting of the staff and many friends associated with Smoky Mountain Healthcare. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 29, 2011, at Clyde First Baptist Church with the Reverend Dr. T. David Phillips and Reverend James Parham officiating. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery in Clyde. The family will receive friends from 2:30 until 4:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Wells Funeral Home of Canton is in charge of arrangements. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be made to Clyde First Baptist Church Nursery Renovation Campaign, P. O. Box 356, Clyde, NC 28721.
