Anthony Monaghan

July 20, 1933 — September 3, 2009

Anthony Francis "Tony" Monaghan, age 76, died Thursday, September 3, 2009 at John F. Keever Solace Center. A native of Glasgow, Scotland, he was a son of the late Patrick and Elizabeth McDonagh Monaghan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Patrick, Michael, Martin, John and William. He retired from Proctor & Gamble in 1991 and was a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church. Tony served in the 25th Division of the Royal Engineers of the British Army and he received his United States citizenship in Chicago in 1976. He was proud of his homeland but loved being a citizen of the United States. Tony dearly loved his family and he had a never ending sense of humor. He loved to dance and his three granddaughters were the twinkle in his eye. He had a passion for fine wood working. He is survived by his wife Barbara Duley Monaghan; one son, Michael O. Monaghan of Atlanta, GA; one daughter, Kathleen J. Monaghan of Crofton, MD; and three granddaughters, Mackenzie T. and Mallory K. Monaghan of Atlanta, GA, and Elizabeth Monaghan Collins of Crofton, MD. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 19, 2009 at St. Andrews Episcopal Church with Father Tim McRee officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 99 Academy Street, Canton, NC 28716 or to Care Partners Hospice Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813.
