Arbie Rathbone

Clyde-Arbie Jane Jenkins Rathbone, age 92, passed away on Monday, July 2, 2007 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Parker and Vinnie Davis Jenkins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Rathbone, who died in 1987; three sisters, Sally Goforth, Laura Ruff, Carrie Early; and two brothers, Iolet and Clem Jenkins. She was a homemaker and a member of Fines Creek United Methodist Church for 71 years, having been the oldest living member. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, working in her flowers and caring for her dog. She also loved to feed friends that visited her home. She is survived by two sons, Fred Rathbone and his wife, Arlene, of Waynesville and Terry Rathbone and his wife, Tommie, of Clyde; four sisters, Nellie Nichols, of Mooresville, Willa Belle Moody, Margaret Della Smathers, and Ollie Mae Morgan, all of Waynesville; one brother, William Swan Jenkins, of Waynesville; three grandchildren, Freida Stines, Henry Rathbone, and Teresa Heinz; and six great grandsons, Jackson and Jones Heinz, Cody Stines, and Nason, Joseph, and Isaac Rathbone. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 4, 2007 at Fines Creek United Methodist Church with Reverend Paul Davenport and Reverend J. Timothy McConnell officiating. Burial will follow at Fines Creek United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville and at other times the family will be at the home of Fred Rathbone, 209 Chestnut Park Drive. Serving as pallbearers will be Charles Rathbone, Edwin Fish, Dale Webb, Garry Morgan, Dennis Early, Jimmy Ruff, Brad Koch, and Kevin Brooks. Great grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers. Memorials may be given to Meals on Wheels, 486 Marshal Street, Waynesville, NC 28786 or Fines Creek United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, 209 Chestnut Park Drive, Waynesville, NC 28786.
