Arel Kuykendall

Canton – Arel Kuykendall, age 83, passed away on Thursday, March 24, 2016 at Mission Hospitals – Memorial Campus. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late William Oscar and Fannie Sales Kuykendall. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Troy Kuykendall. He was a United States Army veteran serving in Korea. Arel was an avid coon hunter and horseback rider. He loved to tell stories and make people laugh. He enjoyed being outside in the woods and rattlesnake hunting. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Rachel Shipman Kuykendall; three daughters, Angela Frizzell of Canton, Debbie Brayton and Stephen Wagner of Sanford, Florida, and Aretta Kuykendall and her husband, Ed Burnette, of Canton; two sisters, Frances Smith and Betty McCoy both of Canton; a brother, Arvel Kuykendall of Canton; six grandchildren, Micah Frizzell, Hailey Medford and her husband, Isaac, Craig Erwin, Julie Burnette and her fiancé, Ben Morgan, Tyler and Taylor Pace; five great-grandchildren, Reese, Tyson, and Ramsey Silver, Maddie Erwin, and Allie Medford. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 26, 2016 at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Gwyn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
