Arlie Barto Silver- age 70 died Monday, May 8, 2006, at his residence on Chestnut Mountain Road. He was a native of Haywood County but had lived in Fairhope, Alabama and Destin, Florida. He was a son of the late James Dimey and Fannie Mae Sisk Silver. Arlie believed in the saving grace of Jesus and was baptized as a young man. He retired from the United States Army as an Airborne Ranger after 21 years of service, and was a master carpenter and home builder for more than 30 years. He was known for his honesty and craftsmanship, and he loved to read western books. Arlie was a loving husband, devoted father and grandfather and had a continuing interest in current and world affairs, keeping in touch through Fox news and CNN; and also loved to debate. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Laura Lee Silver; one daughter, Pamela Moore and her fiancée, G.R. Green of Ashburn, VA; four sons, Alan L. Silver and his wife, Karen, of Tallahassee, FL, Jeffrey Silver and his fiancée, Martha Mancill, of Mobile, AL, Arlie B. Silver, Jr. of New York City, NY, and Steven Silver of Navarre, FL; one step-daughter, Cindy Cordel and her husband, Michael, of Bates City, MO; three sisters, Winnifred Leatherwood and her husband, Neal, Millie Hoglen, and Doris Clark all of Canton; two brothers, Richard Silver and his wife, Rubena, of Enka and J.D. Silver and his wife, Janice, of Canton; ten grandchildren, Natalie and Matthew Silver of Tallahassee, FL, Arlie Jacob and Chelle Moore of Ashburn, VA, Arlie Ren Silver of Mobile, AL, Steven Ellis Silver of Navarre, FL, Brandi Dodd and Jamie Teems both of Rome, GA, Kimberly Farmer and her husband, Michael, of Silver Springs, GA and one great-granddaughter, Ansley Farmer of Silver Springs, GA; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, May 11, 2006, in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Major Al Smith and Reverend Perry Hines officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2:30 until 4:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
