Arnold Howell

Canton – Arnold Russell Howell, age 93, passed away on Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at his residence. A resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late George Watson and Florence Kuykendall Howell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Edith Howell, who passed in 2007, three sisters and three brothers. Arnold was employed with Champion International for 40 plus years and retired as a supervisor. He served his country in the United States Merchant Marines during WWII. Arnold was a deacon of Sunny Point Baptist Church and a member of the cemetery, building and grounds committees. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, and raising cattle. He is survived by three daughters, M.A. Howell Bonham and her husband, Floyd, of Canton, Ruth Howell Davis and her husband, Darell, of Anderson, SC, and Irene Howell Anderson and her husband, Mack, of Canton; four grandchildren, Diana Abbott Sturgill, Garrett McCollough, Lauren Habenicht Arledge, and Samantha McCollough; and three great-grandchildren, Lex Sturgill, October Sturgill, and Callan McCollough. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, May 29, 2015 at Sunny Point Baptist Church with the Reverend James Roberts and the Reverend Shannon O' Riley officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church. At other times the family will be at the home of his daughter, Irene Anderson. Memorials may be made to Sunny Point Baptist Church, 132 Sunny Point Drive, Canton, NC 28716.
