Arthur Pitts Iii

Waynesville, Arthur Laurie Pitts III, age 89, passed away on Thursday, January 13, 2022.

A Virginia native, he was the son of the late Arthur Laurie and Nannie Gilliam Pitts. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Shirley Presnell Pitts. Arthur served his country in the US Air Force. Following the US Air Force, Arthur attended Elon University and earned a BA in History. He later pursued a career in trucking. During his career, he was a proud member of the Teamsters Local 391.

While he would tell you that he was far from perfect, Arthur was hilarious, kind, silly, brilliant, compassionate, sarcastic, loyal, generous, loving, and very stubborn. He always championed the underdog, was steadfast in his convictions, and always kept his word. Arthur loved his family and dear friends both fiercely and completely. Our world will never be the same without him.

Arthur is survived by his daughter, Laurie Ann Pitts, and partner, Artie Hartsell, of Waynesville and granddaughter, Piper Lillian Pitts, as well as Jerry Douglas of Greensboro; and Marie Hicks and Carole Hicks, both of Waynesville

The care of Mr. Pitts has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
