Athalee Holley

Waynesville, Athalee Johnson Holley, age 90 died Saturday, November 29, 2008 at the Canton Christian Convalescent Center. She was born in Independence, Louisiana on October 26, 1918. She graduated from Albany High School and lived in Hammond, LA all her adult life before moving to North Carolina 5 years ago. She was preceded in death by her husband, George L. Holley; her mother Clara Johnson; her father, Henry A. Johnson, and three brothers, Cline, Woodrow and Oswald "Dub" Johnson, all of Louisiana. She was a retired Louisiana school bus owner/driver, a charter member of the Woodland Park Baptist Church in Hammond, LA, member of the Fern Leaf Chapter of the Eastern Star, Hammond, LA and past president of the Tangipahoa Travelers Camping Club. She is survived by her son, Chaplain George L. Holley, Jr. (Chaplain at Craggy Correctional Center in Asheville) and his wife Patsy; four grandchildren; John M. Holley of Fredrick, MD, Anita H. Jensen of Brevard, Nancy H. Russell of Asheville and James M. Holley of Augusta, two half-sisters, Ivie Jean Wagoner and Nellie Lee Soiginer of Louisiana; one brother-in-law, Robert S. Holley and his wife Vivian of Baton Rouge, LA, three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. The funeral service and burial will be held mid-week in Hammond, LA under the direction of Harry McKneely & Sons Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Haywood Regional Medical Center Hospice, 560 Leroy George Drive, Clyde, NC 28721.
