Avis Elliott

Avis "Dooge" Elliott "1923 – 2013" Canton – Avis Trull Elliott, age 89, passed away on Monday, November 04, 2013 at The Homestead. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was a daughter of the late Coman and Lillie Howell Trull. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Oscar Elliott, who died in 1988; one sister, Clara Edwards; and one brother, Everett Trull. Avis enjoyed reading and working in her garden. She is survived by one son, J.L. Elliott and wife, Veda, of Hickory; two daughters, Brenda Dotson and husband, Richard, of Hartsville, South Carolina, and Elaine Brown and husband, Charles, of Canton; two sisters-in-law, Mary Jo Elliott Cairnes and Genevieve Trull, both of Canton; five grandchildren, Greg and Brandon Elliott, Brett and Brian Dotson, and Lindsey Brown; and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 6, 2013 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Claude Surrett and Reverend Rusty Rector officiating. Burial will follow at New Cruso Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. Memorials may be made to the Cruso Volunteer Fire Department, 13264 Cruso Road, Canton, NC 28716 or to East Canton Baptist Church, 224 Evans Road, Canton, NC 28716.
