A. HERBERT BRUCE

Canton, NC-A. Herbert Bruce, age 99, died Thursday, February 20, 2003 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home.

A native of Watertown, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Eric Gustaf Bruce and Ann Thulin Bruce. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Delano Bruce, who died in 2001. He was employed as an assistant town engineer and later the town engineer for the Town of Milton, Massachusetts and retired in 1968 after 24 years employment. He was a former member of the Waynesville Country Club and a member of Grace Episcopal Church in the Mountains.

He is survived by a son, Richard C. Bruce and his wife, Elizabeth, of Cullowhee; a sister, Doris Zentgraf, of Lexington, Massachusetts; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 8, 2003 at Grace Episcopal Church in the Mountains, located in Waynesville, NC with Reverend Dr. Howard W. White officiating. Inurnment will be in the church columbarium.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grace Episcopal Church in the Mountains, 394 N. Haywood Street, Waynesville, NC 28786.
