Barbara Gantt

Canton – Barbara Jean Surrett Gantt, 76, of the Dutch Cove Community passed away on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at Mission Hospitals – Memorial Campus.

Barbara was a native of Buncombe County and had resided in Haywood County most of her life.  She was the daughter of the late Fred and Lottie Mae Surrett.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Donald Gantt, who died in 2001; two brothers, Billy Williams and Cecil Surrett.  Barbara was a member of Dutch Cove Baptist Church and enjoyed cooking and canning.

She is survived by two daughters, Shirley Wright (Sam) of Maggie Valley and Kim Gantt of Canton; two sons, Terry Gantt (Jody) and Michael Gantt (Amber) all of Canton; four brothers, Wayne Surrett, Carroll Williams, Reed Williams and Ted Williams all of Canton; six grandchildren, Ashley Passmore, Heather Long, Anthony and Robert Hatfield and Hailey and Summer Gantt; and three great-grandchildren, Emma Wright, Wyatt Passmore and Sadie Long.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Jason Miller officiating.  Burial will follow at Morning Star Community Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
