Barbara Kuykendall

Barbara Lucile Lanning Kuykendall, 69, of Canton, passed away Friday, October 29, 2010, at her Dix Creek home, surrounded by her four daughters. Craig Summers, Hospice musical therapist, was leading the family in singing "Amazing Grace" when she passed away. She was born on January 28, 1941 in her Lake Logan home. After graduating from Bethel High School in 1959, she spent the majority of her adult life as a homemaker which she dedicated her life to. Throughout her life, she held onto her strong faith in God, her love of flowers and her love of reading, particularly the Bible, which she read all the way through multiple times. She was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church. She was the daughter of the late Robert and Lula Mae Lanning. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Roy Lanning, and three infant sisters named Virginia Dare, Marie and Mary Lee Lanning. Surviving is Hugh Kuykendall and their four daughters - Beverly Farmer and husband, Jeff, of Canton, Lisa Leatherwood and husband, John, of Canton, Brenda Cochran and husband, Sam, of Waynesville and Julianne Kuykendall of Canton. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Amber Turner and husband, Jason, of Canton, Kayla Farmer of Canton, Stephen and William Leatherwood of Canton and Samuel and Riley Cochran of Waynesville, as well as three siblings - Blanton Burnette, Lela Singleton and Lawrence Lanning, all of Canton. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, November 1 at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Canton with the Reverend Dr. Perry Brindley officiating. Burial will follow at the Bethel Community Cemetery. Jeff Famer, John Leatherwood, Sam Cochran, Jason Turner, Stephen and William Leatherwood and Samuel and Riley Cochran will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends Sunday night at Wells Funeral Home in Canton. Memorials may be made to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering at Mount Zion Baptist Church, 269 Dix Creek Road, Canton, NC 28716.
