Barbara Leming

August 3, 1931 — June 5, 2004

Candler-Barbara Jean Curtis Leming, age 72, of Morgan Branch Estates, beloved wife of Walter Leming, lost her courageous battle with cancer on Saturday, June 5, 2004. She was born in Waynesville on August 3, 1931, the daughter of the late Jess and Jesse McCracken Curtis. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Linda Louise Leming. She was a graduate of Waynesville Township High School. She was an active member of New Morgan Hill Baptist Church and the Sanctuary Sunday School Class. She retired from the NC Court System, serving in Sylva, Morganton, and Gastonia. Her great loves were gardening, cooking, and travel. She will be remembered for her hospitality and generosity. She is survived by her husband, Walter Leming; a daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Alan Lane of Charlotte; her "Grandtwins" Cara Lane of Charlottesville, Virginia, and Colin Lane of Troy, NC; and her future granddaughter-in-law, Adrienne Dunlap of Charlotte. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 8, 2004 at the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Homes and Cremation Services with the Reverend Roy Houston officiating. The family will receive friends following the services, at the funeral home. The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses at Mission Hospitals Cancer Care and Mountain Area Hospice for their care and kindness during Barbara's year long battle. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mountain Area Hospice, 85 Zillicoa Street, Asheville, NC 28801, or to New Morgan Hill Baptist Church Building Fund, 370 Case Cove Road, Candler, NC 28715.
