Barbara Ratcliffe

Waynesville, NC — Barbara Elizabeth Stucki Ratcliffe passed away Sunday August 24 at her home in Waynesville, NC. She was born in Greenville, SC and as a child lived in various southern cities including Savannah, GA where she most recently lived with her husband, George since 1997. During their marriage, Barbara and George, along with their 3 children, lived in a wide variety of places including Germany during the mid 1960's. Barbara was the daughter of the late Walter and Mary Adeline Futrell Stucki and wife of the late George H. Ratcliffe who died in February 2008. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Joyce Bishop. Barbara was a member of White Bluff United Methodist Church in Savannah, GA. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Barbara was known for her beautiful smile, contagious laughter, and genuine caring for her family and community. In her younger years she sang soprano in church choirs and was involved in United Methodist Church women's groups. She also loved to read, cook, and go camping. Although faced with numerous health issues and operations over many years, Barbara's strong will and Christian faith carried her through these difficult times and she always had a positive attitude and never lost her love for life. Barbara is survived by two sons, David Wayne Ratcliffe and his wife, Rayna of Lincolnton, NC, Kenneth George Ratcliffe and his wife Annelle, of Waynesville, NC; one daughter, Mary Connolly and her husband Tom, of Branford, CT; one brother, Walter A. Stucki, Jr. and his wife Marguerite, of Baltimore, MD; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild and five step great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 2:00PM Thursday August 28 at Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah, GA with Rev. John Haney officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00PM – 8:00PM Wednesday August 27 at Fox and Weeks Funeral Home on Hodgson Memorial Dr. A memorial service honoring Mrs. Ratcliffe will be held at 11:00AM Saturday August 30 at Memorial Chapel at Lake Junaluska Assembly in Lake Junaluska, NC.
