Barbara Rathbone

Waynesville, Barbara Ann Mathis Rathbone, age 52, of 1164 Hyatt Creek Road, passed away on Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at her residence. A native of McDowell County, she resided in Lexington, NC for eight years, but had lived most of her life in Haywood County. She was preceded in death by her stepfather, Jim Horne. Barbara was an activities director and CNA and attended Dellwood Baptist Church. She is survived by her parents, Margie Irene Pruett and Ted Junior Mathis of Asheville; her husband of 20 years, Sherman McArthur Rathbone; two daughters, Ronda Hood and her husband, Chris, of Eatonton, GA and Michelle Swanger and her husband, John, of Waynesville; one sister, Sharon Kight and her husband, Bob, of Jackson, OH; one brother, Darrell Mathis and his wife, Shelia, of Waynesville; and five grandchildren, Brittany and Marissa Love, Christina Hood, and Alex and Hayden Swanger, who were the love of her life! Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 1, 2008 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Johnny Swanger and Reverend John Swanger, III officiating. Burial will follow at Log Cabin Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday evening at the funeral home.
