Barbara Shelton

Waynesville, Barbara Noland Shelton, age 55, of Plott Mountain Road, died on Sunday, November 29, 2009 at her residence. A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of Ellen Rathbone and the late Medford Noland. She was employed at Dayco Inc. for 25 years and later graduated with honors from Southwestern Community College where she earned her degree in radiology. She began her new career in 2000 at Haywood Regional Medical Center where she worked in the Nuclear Medicine Department. Barbara loved spending time with her family, going to her boathouse, traveling, and helping others. She was a member of Fairview Baptist Church where she also enjoyed spending time with her church family. In addition to her mother, she is survived by one son, Scott Shelton and his wife, Angie and their children, Saylor and Sammy Joe Shelton; two stepsons, Michael Bryson and Chris Bryson and his children, Haeli and Rhiley Bryson; one sister, Wanda Noland Cool and her husband, George and their children, Andria and Trevor Cool; and a special friend, Robert Hugh Messer; all of Waynesville. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Jennings Sizemore officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers will be Scott and Saylor Shelton, Mike and Chris Bryson, Trevor and George Cool, Robert Hugh Messer and Kenny Bryson. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home and at other times at her mother's home at 351 Lum Boone Circle.
